about this artwork
Norway 1944. A storm unleashes itself above the cold restless sea, where a so called Kriegsfischkutter is navigating along the shoreline. The icy rain blows heavily in the wind, clouds are becoming darker and darker. Thunder flashes reveal silhouettes in the sky, Allied planes are closing in. Will the German crew detect the incoming danger that awaits them?

The process of making my artwork pieces consists of different steps. I start out with gathering images and assets. Next is visualising the composition in my head, sometimes I sketch the idea on a piece of paper. After this I place the main subject, in this case the Kriegsfischkutter, on the Photoshop artboard. With a tool I ‘cut out’ the ship from the white background.
Now comes the fun part, matching the scene with the main subject, a process where you need to look at the general lighting, highlights and shadows in correlation with the light source. I do all of this with so called ‘adjustment layers’. By adding some ropes, lines and adjusting the flag in a more ‘windy’ fashion I added some extra interest.
The detail stage is where I use different kinds of brushes to add splashes and clouds. Extra elements, such as the seal, the buoys and the British fighter planes come from my own collection or the premium Vecteezy library.
Thinking about decorating your room? I sell these artwork pieces on canvas posters.
