Scale: 1/72 | Model used: Revell – JU 88 A-1 (No. 03766), Figures by Heller

about this diorama

This scene takes place on a French airfield in 1940 and is called ‘Rendezvous at the Junkers’ where crew members meet up next to their Junkers JU 88 A-1 (belonging to 7./KG 54 Totenkopf) and discuss their experiences. A mechanic with toolbox is on his way to his assignment and a guard with dog has a little chat with a serviceman.

regarding the build

Building the kit of this Junkers was quite a project to say the least. Cockpit detail is excellent, but required a little bit of pre painting. Because you work with larger parts, you need to work in segments in order to keep focused on a nice consistent finish. The camouflage splinter pattern was applied by utlising some masking tape, this made sure that the lines were crisp. The glass canopies were different transparant parts that were glued together with wood glue and then painted with acrylic paints. By using acrylics you can scratch paint from the surface with a cocktail stick. A little bit of sanding and filling was required in certain parts, especially around the fuselage.

The figures come from a Heller set, where I painted them up using some reference images. The wooden base was pre made and comes from Superhobby.com. From this website I also got the 3d-printed ladder and fuel drums. Regarding the boxes, these are from a company called Black Dog. Realising the base was a case of adding a layer of earth texture followed by sprinkling a lot of grass flock of different sizes and adding some tufts.

This 1/144 scale diorama called 'Patrolling the sea' displays a so called Kriegsfischkutter from the German Navy navigating the waters around Norway. These small ships were armed and equipped to perform a variety of roles including minesweeping, anti-submarine warfare, patrol, and convoy escort.

Here you''ll find my latest scale models, from 1/72 tanks to 1/16 figures.
